Coat Talk

Let's talk about an item that you don't need to replace this year to stay on top of the fashion trends. Your wool coat.

The great thing about coats is that their style doesn't adjust much from year to year. The coat I bought 5 years ago still works well today.

But that doesn't mean it can't look new and trendy! Make your winter coat look like it is fresh of the store racks with these quick (and frugal!) updates:

1. The Brooch: Add glam quick and easy with a pin-on brooch. Options are endless with this and you can change your look everyday with this simple accessory. Pin on a faux flower, a jeweled pin, a bow or a jeweled feather for a fresh, new and fashionable look.

2. The Belt: For another quick update, swap the belt (or add one). Try a skinny belt in a contrasting color or leopard print. Or head to your local fabric store and pick out a piece of ribbon for a feminine and flirty look.

3. The Buttons: This one requires some sewing skills, but change your buttons! Go for metallic or color or funk. Match or mismatch your buttons. Just make sure to buy buttons that are the same size or they won't fit into your button holes.

Have fun updating your fall and winter coats with these fast, fashionable and frugal suggestions!
