Knowing what colors you look best in is essential when it comes to shopping. It really does not matter if the trendiest color in the fall is bright orange. If you look bad in it, you CANNOT buy it. But how do you know if it will work for you or not? Well, this is where we step in to give you a quick and easy breakdown on what colors will look hot on you.
Colors are broken down into cool and warm. Within these two categories, there are two other categories describes as seasons. Cool seasons are winter and summer. Warm seasons are spring and fall. Here's how to figure out which palette will suit you the best:
Step one: Determining your skin tone
Pinch a portion of skin on your underarm. Is the color pinkish or bluish? Or peach or yellowish? If pinkish and/or bluish, you have a cool undertone. If yellowish or peach, you have a warm undertone.
Step two: Observe your hair
If your skin tone is cool and you have blonde to deep brown hair, then your color season is Summer. If your skin tone is cool but you have dark brown to black hair, your color season is winter. Note: If you hair has golden or red highlights, you might not fit perfectly into this color palette.
If your skin tone is warm and you have blonde to medium brown hair with golden highlights, then your color season is Spring. If your skin tone is warm and you have red, dark brown or black hair with golden or red highlights, then your color season is fall.
Now that you know your season, here are the colors that work best for YOU:
Spring: Your colors are peach, camel, golden yellow or brown, bright greens, ivory, true reds and corals. Colors to avoid: black, white and colors that are too muted or dark.
Summer: Your colors are light blue, dusty pink, lavender, plum and pale yellow. Basically, soft pastels look great on you. Colors to avoid: bright colors.
Fall: Your colors are taken right from the autumn leaves. Camel, beige, olive green, orange, gold, brown, and dark red. Stay away from white and pastels.
Winter: Your colors are black, navy, red and bright pink! You also look good in white and certain pastels (think light blue and pink). Avoid beige and orange like the plague.
